This policy explains what personal data SIAI Forum (siai.forum) collects, why, and the choices you have.
1. What we collect
- Account information: username, email address, and optionally your name, profile picture, bio, location and website.
- Content you post: topics, replies, messages, reactions and uploads. Public posts are visible to anyone on the internet.
- Technical data: IP address, browser and device information, and logs of actions such as logins, used for security, spam prevention and abuse investigation.
- Cookies: essential cookies to keep you signed in and remember preferences such as light or dark mode. We do not use advertising cookies.
2. Signing in with Google or GitHub
You can create an account or sign in with Google or GitHub. When you do, SIAI Forum receives only the basic profile information you approve on the provider’s consent screen:
- your email address, used to create and secure your account and to send notifications you opt into;
- your name and profile picture, used to pre-fill your public profile (you can change both at any time);
- a provider account identifier, used only to recognise you when you sign in again.
We do not receive your Google or GitHub password, and we do not access your emails, files, contacts, repositories or any other data. Information received from Google or GitHub is used only to provide sign-in and your account. It is not sold, not shared with advertisers, not used for advertising, and not used to train AI models.
3. How we use data
To run the Forum: create and secure accounts, display your posts and profile, send emails you choose to receive (notifications, digests), prevent spam and abuse, and improve the service using aggregate statistics.
4. Who we share data with
We do not sell personal data. We share it only with service providers that help run the Forum, under their own security and privacy terms:
- cloud hosting and database;
- file and backup storage;
- transactional email delivery;
- content delivery and DNS.
We may also disclose information when required by law or to protect users and the Forum.
5. Retention
Account data is kept while your account exists. Public posts remain as part of discussions unless removed. Security logs are kept for a limited period. When you delete your account, your personal data is deleted or anonymised; some posts may remain attributed to an anonymous user.
6. Your choices and rights
You can view and edit your profile, change email preferences, disconnect Google or GitHub (Preferences → Account → Associated accounts), download your data (Preferences → Account → Download my activity) and delete your account (Preferences → Account → Delete my account). You can also email siaiforum.admin@gmail.com to request access, correction or deletion. Where applicable, including under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, we will respond within a reasonable time.
7. Security
We use encrypted connections (HTTPS), hashed passwords and restricted access to systems. No online service is perfectly secure, so please use a strong, unique password or a trusted sign-in provider.
8. Children
The Forum is not intended for anyone under 16, and we do not knowingly collect data from them.
9. Changes
We will post updates to this policy here, and announce material changes on the Forum.
